In our last post, we discussed having basic home details stored together as part of your emergency preparedness plan. This week we discuss some VIP contacts to consider having in case of an emergency.
We will continue on the theme of the last post, that you can do anything in small chunks. For this week, make sure you take 5 to 10 minutes to collect some key contacts.
This post is intended to give you one bite-sized chunk that you can review, create, and store in a binder for when you might actually need it. We also acknowledge that everyone has a unique situation so they might need different things included than others. This is not intended to be a “one size fits all”, but to get you thinking about what you need.
What VIP Contacts Should You Collect?
You already collected information about contacts around your home. However, it might be a good idea to add some other repeat contacts that you want to have readily accessible as well.
Some examples may include:
- Nearby Family
- Religious Community
- Social Groups
- Social Workers
- Nearby Community Specific Contacts
In addition to these, you might also consider local, city, or state caregiver agencies that help during emergencies such as FEMA. Brainstorm who you think you would need to contact, then gather their details and put them in the binder.
The intent is to be practical, not fancy. You can write all of this down on a regular sheet of paper and that is fine.
You can also take a photo of this piece of paper and store it into an application like the MindLight app. It also has a contacts section that you can use, allowing you to pull contacts from your phone right into the app. This will allow you to make this simple piece of paper mobile and visible to share with everyone else that cares for your loved one.
